Fanart #2; Bernice & Moses Manipulation

I was sifting through my folders of pictures and decided to toy around with a few pictures in Photoshop. As some of you might know, Moses once had a wedding photoshoot with Victoria Jolly in a promotion for some bridal house. Bernice also had another bridal photoshoot last time; if I'm not wrong, for France Bridal House or something like that. Unfortunately, they didn't have a photoshoot together, which I'm frankly rather surprised at, considering they're one of TVB's most popular, high-profile partnerships. So, I decided to take the matter into my own hands.

The original pictures of the respective photoshoots.

Don't they look good together? If only my manip-ing skills were better.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Hee. They really should do a real wedding promotion photoshoot together soon. Or even, a real wedding, heh. Then, I wouldn't have to resort to my crappy Photoshop skills.

I think Bernice's wedding photoshoot is beautiful. The backdrops were all very pretty, and her hair and makeup were perfect. She looks like such a beautiful bride. And hey, Moses would be an ideal groom. Few men can pull off the top-to-toe white suit, and Moses is one of them; and he does it while looking like the ultimate Prince Charming at the same time. Don't you think they're a match made in heaven, anyone?

Video Spotlight; #2

Heart of Greed, Initial-D style

Note: Possible spoilers for it contains a pivotal scene in the Heart of Greed finale. Don't watch if you're spoiler-free!

Just thought I'd share this video I stumbled across that day. I think the title up there kinda says it all; you have to watch it to know what I mean! Just a short video, good for a few laughs. Enjoy!

P/S: Wow, just realised that this blog has hit the 2000-visitor mark. Rather amazing, considering I wasn't even sure if I would be any good at this whole blogging thing. Thank you to everyone who comes here for all your kind comments and support! :)

Miss Hong Kong 2007

So, with much hype and news coverage, the new Ms. Hong Kong has finally been crowned, taking over the crown from the beautiful Ms. Hong Kong 2006, Aimee Chan. There has a lot of talk about Ms. HK over the past month or so, and I'll admit, I did go have a look at the contestant profiles, and tried predicting who would place based on their official pictures alone, and I failed miserably. I predicted #7 Lorretta Chow to win, #12 Nicole Lee, and probably #2 Lily Ho since she got so much publicity in the run-up to the finals. But as we all know, pageants, very much like the TVB Anniversary awards, love to throw us off guard, and do something completely shocking and unexpected.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Miss Hong Kong 2007 1st Runner-up #9 Grace Wong Kwan-Hing, Miss Hong Kong 2007, #3 Kayi Cheung, Miss Hong Kong 2007 2nd Runner-up, #7 Lorretta Chow Mei-Yun.

#3 Kayi Cheung
23 yrs, 5'4", 111 lbs, 33-24-34
Occupation: Student
Education: University
Hobbies: Traveling, snowboarding.
Note: Kayi is one of the overseas delegates hailing from Vancouver, and won the pre-competition title of Miss Vitality Ambassador.
Comments: Well, this one came as a bit of a shocker to me. The official MHK profile pic of her in the top left hand corner is not flattering at all, but her other photos don't wow me either. 5'4" is a tad short for a beauty queen too. I suppose she did really well with her interview sessions and/or catwalk to win. You guys who watched the pageant, do you think she deserved to win? Canada seems to be a lucky charm in pageants though; contestants from Vancouver and Toronto always seem to place in MHK. Aimee Chan and last year's 1st runner-up Janet Chow are both from Toronto, while the winners of '97, '98, '99 and '00 hail from Vancouver. And that's not counting the runner-ups, and finalists. Let's not forget the MCI pageants too, where Ms. Vancouver always takes the crown. Kayi apparently was a contestant in the Miss Chinese (Vancouver) International Pageant in 2005; winning the Vivacious Beauty Award. Maybe her experience in pageants gave her an edge in this year's MHK, then. She's also had experience presenting for Fairchild Television, and with that, I'm pretty sure we'll see her hosting in TVB soon.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
#9 Grace Wong Kwan-Hing
21 yrs, 5'6", 116lbs, 33-24-35
Occupation: Student
Education: University
Hobbies: Dancing, Singing, Reading, Acting.

Note: Grace also won Miss Photogenic and Miss International Goodwill yesterday night during the finals.
Comments:
She doesn't look that good in her official photo, but from the other photos in the collage above, it does appear that the camera loves her. She looks a whole lot better with her hair down than up, though. Miss HK Beauties reports that she's from New York, USA, but I don't think she's one of the official overseas delegates, is she? Fala Chen also hails from New York, and also got 1st Runner-up for the year she took part in MCI. Fala is outperforming that year's MCI winner, Leanne Li, in terms of acting roles and popularity, and I could see Grace shadowing that feat.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
#7 Lorretta Chow Mei-Yun
19 yrs, 5'9", 124 lbs, 33-24-34
Occupation: Student
Education: University
Hobbies: Singing, Arts and crafts
Note: Lorretta won the unofficial pre-pageant award of Most Attractive Legs, and was also labelled by the press as the 'Flora Chan Lookalike' of this year's finalists.
Comments: I don't know why the press like to have their 'lookalikes' every single time, but after a look, she does resemble Flora Chan a little. Based on her pictures and her height, she seemed like a strong contender for the title. However, I'm only just realising that she's only 19, although she looks older than she really is in her pictures. The age might have deterred her claim for the crown though, I don't remember MHKs being so young.

The other two finalists were:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
#14 Candice Chiu Ga-Dik (above) & #4 Mandy Wong Chi-Man, both 24 years of age.
Comments: Candice looks extremely youthful despite her age. She reminds me a little of one of the female cadets in The Academy. TVB's always favoured girl-next-door looks like hers, I wonder if they'll sign her. Mandy's make-up is way too heavy in her official picture, and she just doesn't look very good there. Nothing special, IMO.

The rest of the Top 8 Finalists:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
#1 Joey Mak Ho-Yee
Comments: Again, nothing special. Sweet-looking, girl-next-doorish. We have plenty of those already.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
#5 Destiny Cheng Ying-Ying
Comments: Okay. She kind looks like your average university student. But I just simply cannot take someone named Destiny seriously.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
#6 Anita Wong Wai-Lam
Comments: She needs to find a hairstyle that suits her. What were the stylists thinking?

The hot favourite that failed:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
#2 Lily Ho Ngo-Yee
Comments: I'm extremely surprised she didn't even make it into the top 8, considering the amount of press coverage she got before the competition. She even won Miss Tourism Ambassador, and was labelled 'Gigi Lai Lookalike' and everything.

Note: Beauty pageant winners have to be complete all-rounders; firstly being physically attractive, intelligent, graceful, talented, worldly, and they have to excel in all the different segments of the pageant. However, my comments are based mainly on the pictures alone and nothing else, since I have not watched the pageant. This is where you guys who have watched the pageant come in - do let me know if there were any outstanding girls in the interview sessions, catwalk, etc.

Pageant contestants aside, it looked like a rather fun night as the previous MHK winners/TVB artists came out to play.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Raymond Lam & MHK 2004, Kate Tsui performing on the night. Hope this comes up on Youtube soon.

I also found pictures of hosts Eric Tsang and Nat Chan doing a little dance segment with the previous MHK winners and runner-ups. Would love to watch this as well, because they all look like they're having so much fun. Especially the two men, of course. I find it hilarious how all the MHKs tower over the guys, heh.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
MHK 1998 Anne Heung, MHK 1999 Sonija Kwok, MHK 2003 Mandy Cho & MHK 2004, Kate Tsui. They all look so gorgeous. Kate looks extraordinarily good in her beauty-queen getup compared to how she usually looks in series and her tomboyish image.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I'm not entirely sure on the first three pictures, but I think they're MHK 2005 Tracy Ip, MHK 2005 1st Runner-up Sharon Luk and MHK 2005 2nd Runner-up Carrie Lam. I always tend to mix up Tracy and Carrie. I thought 'Cho Pang' in HOG was Tracy for ages before Tracy's character actually turned up, lol. And of course the last picture is none other than MHK 2006, Aimee Chan.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Such pretty dresses.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
More ex pageant contestants. Shirley looks so pretty. I've never been a fan of Mandy's but she looks really good here too, very elegant. Last year's 1st runner-up, Janet Chow was looking very beautiful and radiant in all the pictures I saw. Suki Chui, one of last year's finalists also attended. And Moses, I know he's not a contestant, but I put him here, just because. (Oh, and also because he looks awesome in a suit.) Lol. I think he was one of the judges?

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Aimee Chan bids being the reigning MHK goodbye.

What do you guys think of the results? Do you agree?

Pictures thanks to Sina, Miss HK Beauties, and Amelie's TVB Blog.

There and Back Again; Chapter 1

Hey everyone! I don't know if you still remember that prologue to my fic which I posted quite sometime ago, but finally, I've got the first chapter together. Here's who's who in my fic, and a little peek into their character and history. Remember to let me know what you think - I'm really nervous with this fic and writing it, because I'm not sure what you guys enjoy reading. Here we go!

*

There and Back Again; Main Characters

Moses Chan Ho
Dr. Lam Man Chung/MC
Top neurosurgeon at Yan Sang Hospital. Will most likely be chief of his department once the current chief of neurosurgery retires. Renowned surgeon and excellent as what he does, this character is modelled after Moses' MC character in HH II and III. Handsome, intelligent and arrogant, his cool demeanour makes him Yan Sang's most eligible, yet unattainable bachelor. Does not get along with his younger brother Michael. Their parents are divorced, with his father passing away recently, and his mother nowhere to be found. The person he considers closest to family is Lan Yee, the long-time faithful family helper.

Raymond Lam Fung
Dr. Chai Fung/Ben
Completed his medical internship and several years of his residency in the States where he had first obtained his medical degree. Transfered back to Hong Kong not long ago to care for his parents. Has been accepted at Yan Sang to complete his residency. Long-time friends of Noelle and Suet Lei, the trio are finally reunited after his many years in the US. A filial son, commited worker and kind at heart, his amiable and easy-going personality make him well-liked by many. Although witty, outgoing and flirty by nature, he's always pushed love to the back of his life queue.

Bosco Wong Chung Chak
Lam Man Kit/Michael
The second and youngest son of the rich Lam family, and born with a golden spoon in his mouth. Fresh after graduate school, he has been jobless for a year, and still goes about his partying and womanising ways, living off the family fortune left behind by his late father. Like his brother, he can't stand his sibling's guts either, but treats Lan Yee very well, who just might be the only woman in the world he has treated with such respect thus far. Cocky, fun-loving and immature, he has never felt love, although he doesn't know it.

Bernice Liu Bik Yee
Man Po Yee/Noelle
Sensual, vivacious and beautiful, she is an aspiring model-actress who has trouble committing. Going through boyfriends as quickly as fashion changes, she keeps only her dear friends near. However, despite her shell of an appearance, she is very vulnerable insides. Growing up with Suet Lei's family has given her the parental love she lost when she was young; Suet Lei is the sister she never had. Together with Ben, the three of them leave behind the good old days of high school and learn to live and love.

Leila Tong Ling
Chan Ka Ching/Ah Ching/Ching Ching
A cancer patient for the past five years, she has been in and out of Yan Sang hospital more times than she can remember. Through out these past years, she has formed a strong sisterly relationship with Suet Lei, who is one of the nurses at Yan Sang. With a strong will to live, she has overcome every single medical obstacle life has thrown her thus far with her positive outlook and bubbly personality. However, a recent relapse brings her back to Yan Sang again, and she builds up the strength to fight all over again.

Tavia Yeung Yi
Tam Suet Lei
Simple and normal - these two words sum up all she needs from life. A nurse at Yan Sang, she goes about her responsibilities with heart and commitment. Always never daring to hope for more than necessary, she is often admonished by her closest friends, Noelle and Ben, to live life outside the box for once. Has a good friendship with Ka Ching, one of the patients at Yan Sang as well as a warm-loving family.

Chapter 1 - The Calm Before the Storm

"Calm before the storm set it off
And the sun burnt out tonight.

A reception less than warm set it off
And the sun burnt out tonight."
- Fall Out Boy, Calm Before the Storm.

“Po Yee!” Suet Lei (Tavia Yeung) yelled as she poured some juice into a glass. “Get up, you pig!”

An incoherent mumble came from the top of the stairs. “Nggggghhhh. Why do you feel the need to yell every morning?”

Suet Lei rolled her eyes. “Hey, you asked me to wake you up at nine today, and that’s exactly what I did,” she said, nodding towards the clock. “Come on, eat up, or you’ll be late.”

Noelle (Bernice Liu) shuffled to the table in her bunny slippers and plopped down, her long curly hair tousled from sleep. “Morning shift today?”

“Uh huh, one of the attending doctors got promoted, and Ben’s taking over all his patients, so I’ve gotta go make sure that goes smoothly.”

“Wow,” Noelle noted. “Does that mean Ben’s next in line?” She’d known Ben from high school; they’d been lab partners the first year and had been good friends ever since. She’d roped in Suet Lei into their friendship, and as fate would have it, Ben and Suet Lei were now working at the same hospital. “You really should consider him, you know. He’s hot,” she winked.

“Are you sure you’re supposed to refer to one of our closest guy friends like that?” Suet Lei rolled her eyes. “Besides, ew, he’s so close that it’s incest.”

“Well, he doesn’t have to know. He’d get conceited anyway, if he knew I thought he was hot,” she laughed. “How is he, anyway? I can’t believe I’ve only seen him twice since he came back from that job in the States. Okay wait, you know what, on second thought, do not go after him, he’s practically married to his job.”

“You’re rambling,” Suet Lei noted dryly.

“But you’re listening,” Noelle shot back affectionately, and the both of them started giggling. The both of them could banter back and forth like that for hours, but it was all affectionate. The both of them had grew up next to each other, and when Po Yee’s parents died when she was 8, she spent most of her time next door, and was the older sister Suet Lei never had. Only that Suet Lei was the more responsible one, and Po Yee was the more carefree one. It was a role reversal that worked for them, and that had strengthened this fourteen year friendship.

Suet Lei checked her watch, and downed the last of her juice. “Okay, enough!” she admonished when Noelle continued giggling. “I’ve got to run; I’m going to be late. See you later!”

“Say hi to all the good-looking doctors for me!” Noelle yelled as Suet Lei was halfway out the door.

“Finish your toast!” came the answer, and the door slammed shut.

Noelle smiled to herself, shaking her head, and stuffed the last of her toast into her mouth, enjoying the silence of the house while it lasted. Suet Lei’s parents would soon be back from the taichi lessons at the park and the market respectively, and her younger brother would be wrapping up his morning job right about now. The entire family were such early birds that it made her feel like a complete pig at times.

Remembering their earlier conversation about Ben, she flipped her phone open and texted him to see if he wanted to meet her and Suet Lei for lunch. “I wonder if the workaholic even takes lunches these days,” she wondered out aloud, giggling to herself as she awaited a reply.

It would be just like the old days.

*

MC Lam (Moses Chan) glanced critically at his brother over the top of the morning papers. Disheveled and barely out of bed, his younger brother shoveled a forkful of eggs into his mouth.

“What?” Michael (Bosco Wong) met his gaze defiantly.

“Why don’t you get a job?”

He raised an eyebrow. “I told you, I’m still looking.”

“Maybe you should look harder.”

Michael snorted. “Why does it matter to you?”

MC shook his head and returned to the morning headlines. He knew his parents had told him to look after his brother before they had passed away, but he was a fully grown adult. Wait, make that fully grown useless adult. If he wasn’t going to bother, why should he?

A girl, dressed in a crumpled tank top and jeans came down the stairs, her hair messy. Taking one last look at Michael, her expression changed when he didn’t notice. “Bye, Michael,” she said pointedly.

Michael finally glanced up. “Bye,” he said coolly, his eyes returning to his breakfast.

MC glanced after her as she stomped noisily out of their front door past Lan Yee. “Is that a different girl from the one that came down yesterday?”

“Yeah, but this one isn’t as annoying.”

“It might do you some good to stop fooling around.”

Michael snorted. “I’ll take advice from people who actually deserve to dish it out, thanks very much. Don’t think I didn’t hear you and your new flavour of the week last night in bed. Walls in this house aren’t all that thick.”

MC shrugged. “It’s different,” he said coolly.

“Right,” Michael rolled his eyes. “We both enjoy women. We’re both players. But at least I have the balls to admit it.” Standing up, he tossed the magazine he was reading on the table, and jogged up the stairs, the sound of his room door slamming heard a few seconds later.

Lan Yee watched the interaction with a heavy heart. As much as they both would deny it, the two brothers were actually emotionally more alike that they ever knew. Sure, MC had the career, the golden reputation in the medical world, while all Michael did was grace magazine covers with his rich-boy flings. ‘But, in actual fact, both of them shared far more in common than they realized’, she lamented to herself. She loved them both like they were her own sons, for she was the only parent figure that was around when they were little toddlers.

“Lan Yee?” MC’s voice shook her out of her thoughts. “Are you all right? Did Michael’s slamming of the door startle you?”

She shook her head. “No, I’m fine.” Pausing for awhile, she then spoke again. “Maybe you shouldn’t be so hard on your brother sometimes.”

“You shouldn’t spoil him you know.”

Lan Yee smiled. That was the same answer he gave her all the time. “I spoil you too. Do you think you would have just the right amount of sugar in your coffee every morning, if I didn’t?”

MC smiled. “I’ll come home early for soup tonight, I promise.”

*

“Nurse, where are my white lilies? And my handpicked blue M&Ms?” Chan Ka Ching (Leila Tong) demanded, placing one hand on her right hip.

Suet Lei mock-glared at her as she walked into the room. “Well, Ms. Diva, the last I checked, your name wasn’t Britney Spears, or even anything remotely famous.”

Ka Ching giggled. “Oh come on, where’s the morning humour?”

“Flushed down the toilet with the bowels of the patient in Room 432’s.”

“Oh, you are so disgusting.”

“But I’m your favourite friend at this hospital anyway, admit it,” Suet Lei laughed.

“I don’t know. Dr MC Lam’s pretty hot. He could be my new favourite.”

Suet Lei rolled her eyes. “You had better join the long, long queue, if you’re going to join his fan club. Certified playboy, never stuck with the same woman for more than three weeks, or that’s what the gossip queen at the nurses’ station is saying.”

“I bet she’s been trying to get his attention since Day 1 and has miserably failed,” Ka Ching giggled.

“That’s probably why she’s been so bitter about it.” The both of them laughed. “But I didn’t think he was your type anyway, Ah Ching.”

“Nah, he’s not. Too cool for a girl like me.”

“Yeah, me too. I just want to find someone normal.”

Ka Ching smirked. “See now, you’ve gone and jinxed it. You’re probably never going to find that boring, nice man you’ve always dreamed about.”

“Hey! What’s wrong with being nice?” Suet Lei protested.

“Nothing. It’s just that it wouldn’t hurt you to live dangerously for once,” Ka Ching winked.

“Dangerous? Me? Hah! You have got to be kidding me. Now, take your pills and I’ll be back in an hour’s to check on you.”

*

"Hey, free tmrw, Mr. Hotshot? Suet Lei and I wanna have lunch with you...okay by you?"

Shaking his head, Ben (Raymond Lam) quickly texted a reply and put his phone back into his pocket. Over the years, he had lost count of the many nicknames Noelle had conjured up for him. Absent-mindedly, he walked down the hall, rattling off patient history in his head as he went along. Taking over all of Dr. Chan's patients was not going to be an easy feat. It would probably mean late nights and off-days being constantly on call, but that wasn't going to deter him. He thrived on it.

Knocking on the first door on his right, he heard a sunny 'come in' before pushing it open. "Morning," he said cheerfully.

His patient smiled at him. “Hi,” she paused, reading off his name tag before continuing. “Dr. Chai.”

Ben returned her smile. “Please, just Ben. Between you and me, the whole Dr. Chai thing makes me feel ten years older.”

Ka Ching winked. “See, you look more like a ‘Ben’ than a ‘Dr. Chai’, anyway. Where’s Dr. Chan?”

“Dr. Chan got promoted, and his patients got passed on to me,” Ben checked her charts, and noted down her stats.

“And he didn’t even come say goodbye?” Ka Ching feigned hurt. “I’m heart-broken. Me and him, we had a special thing going on, you know. He’d bring me an apple, I’d knit him a scarf. Things like that.”

Ben smirked, one of his eyebrows raised. “Interesting.”

“Yup, and now he got promoted and forgot all about me and just passed me to you?” she mirrored his smirk. “Real smooth of him.”

“Well,” Ben leaned a little closer and put on a conspirational tone, “Considering the fact that he’s twice your size and a good thirty years older than you, the last time he had to be smooth was probably what, three decades ago? I’d say he’s a little out of practice.”

“Hey, you don’t have to be young to be smooth,” Ka Ching retorted. “Are you implying that you’re smooth?”

He laughed a little under his breath. This was turning out to be a good morning already. “Maybe. We’ll see.”

She laughed with him, and he decided that he liked the sound of her laughter. Ringing, melodic, sweet. “So, I’m in good hands, eh?”

“You could say that,” Ben smiled, and hung her charts back on the foot of her bed. “Now, off to my other patients, or else they’ll accuse me of forgetting them too. I’ll tell Dr. Chan you said hi.”

Ka Ching smiled to herself as he left the room, humming a tune to herself. Suddenly, the sky seemed bluer and somehow, she found herself waiting eagerly to the next time Dr. Chai would come in to check on her again.

Anticipating; #1

Anticipating; #1 - Unconfirmed, Unnamed...Unbelievable!

This article completely makes my day. Now I can't read Chinese characters to save my life, but I can recognise the names of some of my favourite actors. With the help of a few online Chinese-to-English translators, (and many funny translations later) I got the gist of it.

Apparently, according to said article and those trusty online translators, TVB will begin filming a new cop series which deals with the area of narcotics in March 2008, which stars Raymond Lam, Moses Chan, Jessica Hsuan and Bernice Liu. For those of you who read my foreword, you'd know that all four are amongst my favourite artists, and hence, this piece of information makes me very happy indeed. A little bit of squealing, grinning, you get the gist.

I've also been a fan of police dramas since I was little, so its as good as it gets. The producer slated for this series is Producer Poon Ka-Tak, whose other works include Triumph in the Skies, Revolving Doors of Vengeance, La Femme Desperado, and the three original Detective Investigation Files which probably spurred on my early love for police series.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The Main Four - Raymond, Bernice, Jessica & Moses

This is listed as the main cast, and boy, is it a good-looking main cast. Obviously the next question that comes to mind: the pairings. I'm of course hoping for a Moses/Bernice pairing again, but chances are it will be Moses/Jessica and Raymond/Bernice instead. Fresh new pairings which I believe fans would really get behind. I know Raymond/Bernice already have a lot of fans on the Internet, and Moses and Jessica would look good as a couple (I know MC3 definitely agrees, lol). I know Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, and I know March 2008 is a long way away and that the cast could change, but I really, really am keeping my fingers crossed that these four don't change.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The other girls - Selena Li, Nancy Wu and Fala Chen

Selena is listed after the main four, and she's already proven herself to be a strong supporting actress to the masses. Nancy is listed rather far down, and while I love her as a supporting actress, she's been overlooked by TVB. Hopefully her role in here is larger than usual. I've liked Fala since Heart of Greed, and am fine by her. I would like to see her in more roles to see if she can really act, though.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The other guys - Johnson Lee and Oscar Leung Lit Wai

Like Selena, Johnson is listed pretty high up on the list too. I don't know if they're any indication of importance, but I hope so, because Johnson is always good for comic relief. Maybe he'll be that funny man every cop squad needs. Oscar is one young actor (well, actually he's not that young, but I think he's just given 'young' and 'playful' roles, which is why) who has more potential than the other pretty faces who are being promoted heavily. I really do think they'll add more young actors to the mix later on, though.

Other
The Others - Cecilia Yip Tung, Joe Ma and Margie Tsang Sin Wah

I don't know where else to classify these three artists. Joe is not listed as main cast here, although he's certainly led enough productions to usually be given a leading role (But yeah, again, it's probably too early to tell). Can't imagine what his purpose in here will be, unless he's a villain, or to serve as a third party so TVB can have their beloved love triangles. Cecilia, with the recent success of The Family Link, would probably be given a big role in this series. I don't really have a comment on Margie because although I remember watching her, I was probably too young to have been able to form an opinion on her.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The Veterans - Damian Lau, Ha Yu, Lo Yuen Yan, Gigi Wong, Law Koon Lan, and I don't know his name

Damian Lau would probably make an excellent police chief; he has the air and the charisma to play the part. Lo Yuen Yan and Law Koon Lan are always a joy to watch as bumbling, loving mothers. I have a newfound affinity for Ha Yu after Heart of Greed. I also quite like Gigi Wong, and as for the veteran whose name I don't know, I think he has an adorable accent.

All in all, seems like a rather well-rounded cast. There probably will be changes to the cast soon, that is if they even decide to film this. Could somemore read the linked article and tell me if I've missed anything, like, its reliability or the extent of its confirmation?

Probably way too early for me to be so excited, but I can't help it. Hence, this post. What do you guys think? Yay, or nay?

Edit: Latest update from Wiki, Sheren Tang and Kate Tsui have been added to the cast. The addition of Sheren is awesome news to me. I'm a great fan, and I don't think anyone can challenge the fact that she IS a phenomenal actress. Since apparently Jessica is on a one-series-per-year basis with TVB (Is that right?), I highly doubt TVB would 'waste' her on a low-budget, crappy series. Plus, now with the addition of Sheren too, makes this feel like another one of TVB's grand productions to me. It also states that part of filming might occur in Thailand. Feels very Split Second to me, heh. Hearing that Kate will be in it deters me a little, however.

Character names are also up and it looks like Raymond and Moses will be playing brothers, with Damian as their dad. Seems like Bernice and Kate will be playing sisters as well; while Joe Ma and Oscar Leung will be siblings in this show. Pretty interesting, what with all the family relations. Looks like it's going to be another one of those series with loads of drama and complicated relationships. If anyone could translate the names, that would be awesome.

I wonder if this is really real, or if someone has too much time on their hands and is playing a big joke on the TVB fandom. Lol. Keep your fingers crossed that it isn't, or else I, along with a lot of other fans, will be seriously crushed.

I'm just a little wary because March 2008 isn't that near; is it customary for them to release so much information this early? And for them to release so many details including character names and who's singing the theme song?

Oh well, if it's not true, it could be a very good fanfic idea. Someone needs to write it, to make all us crushed fans happy.

TVB Spree

Hey everyone! I know it's been ages since I've updated. Been rather busy what with the start of the second semester, going back to uni, searching for cheap second-hand books, and all the other boring stuff you do when you resume classes.

Also been on a TVB-watching spree - finished off Heart of Greed, To Grow With Love and Devil's Disciples. I have a lot of comments on all three shows, as I always do, and will do a full write-up, hopefully sometime soon.

Heart of Greed
Cast: Lee Sze Kei, Ha Yu, Susanna Kwan, Michelle Yim, Moses Chan, Linda Chung, Bosco Wong, Tavia Yeung, Louis Yuen, Raymond Lam, Yoyo Mung, Chris Lai, Fala Chen, Carrie Lam, and the list goes on.

The star-studded cast.

But just briefly, a few words on all three series. Heart of Greed started out so strongly, and maintained that throughout the series, but for me, failed at the final hurdle. Sadly. I didn't feel fulfilled with the final episode, for some reason or another. Maybe because it felt like I was promised a better ending than the one we were given. That aside, I really did love the entire cast. The veterans delivered stellar performances, and I believe "Dak Dak Dei" will put Moses amongst the front-runners for Best Actor at this year's TVB Anniversary Awards.

To Grow With Love
Cast: Myolie Wu, Andy Hui, Jack Wu, Selena Li, Claire Yiu, Matthew Ko, Gigi Wong, Eddie Kwan, Cheung Chi Kwong, Natalie Wong

To Grow With Love had so much potential, I thought. Myolie was really adorable with the weight she gained. It started off rather funny, but midway, it crashed and burned for me. It started grating on my nerves and instead of having heart and humour, it got nonsensical and pointless at times. I ended up watching to the end, only because I can't stand not finishing a series I start (oh, if only I felt the same way about homework, heh) and only for the supporting characters, i.e. Jack Wu and Selena Li's characters.

Devil's Disciples
Cast: Bosco Wong, Kevin Cheng, Bernice Liu, Sharon Chan, Wayne Lai, Shirley Yeung, Eddy Ko, Johnson Lee, Lee Kwok Lun, Patricia Liu, Oscar Leung, Chan Hoi Yee

I quite liked the costumes in this series, maybe it's because I haven't seen an ancient series in almost forever. Although, I can't understand why all the guys don't have the typical long plait that men are depicted to have back then.

As for Devil's Disciples, I really didn't think it was as bad as a lot of the people on various chatboxes around the TVB blogging world said it was. I might have had it a lot easier than they had since I was already a fan of Bosco and Bernice individually to begin with. Bosco was a lot more at ease with the happy-go-lucky, simple character compared to his role in HOG, and I enjoyed Bernice as the strong 'tai si jeh'. Sharon Chan was surprisingly more convincing than I thought she would've been. Wayne Lai proves again that he can do no wrong, unlike the ending of the series, which frustrated me. The song and dance routine, while hilarious, was absolutely pointless.

The Drive of Life has been raking in high ratings for its debut, and the released pictures of Michael and Sheren's relationship make me want to watch it straight away. Anyone seen it? If so, what do you think?

The Tangled Web of TVB; #1.

TVB and the entertainment industry in Hong Kong is a big Asian market, and what with the dozens of series filmed a year and the hundreds of interviews and promotions their actors and actresses carry out to promote their series and their personal commitments to sponsors, you can be sure many relationships and ties will be forged. Put that together with the awfully innovative pens and magically cropped pictures of the dog-eat-dog HK paparazzi, you can be sure that these relationships will be completely spiced up. The supposed relationships and rumours that these people conjure up make up such a big part of the industry, that I couldn't not have a section covering these interesting partnerships and bonds.

The Tangled Web of TVB will be an ongoing feature (or rather, I hope it'll be) in this blog featuring the many different relationships between artistes and/or characters that occur, be it through coincidence, things they could have in common, mutual friends or just an interesting little tidbit that I have to share about these artistes.

Today's first article, might not be as meaty a piece as what you might have been hoping for (mainly because I don't possess the imagination which the HK reporters do, lol), but it's a very interesting tidbit which I've realised just recently.

The Tangled Web of TVB; #1: The Common Factor

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
In 2003, it was Triumph in the Skies that shot this group of four young, intelligent pilots into stardom. After the series aired, all eyes were on these four relatively new actors. Dubbed S4, short for 'Solar 4', by netizens, Ron Ng Cheuk Hei, Sammul Chan Kin Fung, Bosco Wong Chung Chak and Kenneth Ma Kwok Ming were the hot male newcomers of TVB.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The following year, TVB named six young male artists to promote the 2004 Athens Olympics. These were the cream of the crop of young actors, often still labelled the 'Six Olympic Stars' until today. The Triumph in the Skies bunch were all named, along with the already-widely-popular Raymond Lam Fung, and the fresh new face in TVB acting class graduate Chris Lai Lok Yi.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Then, just last year, yet another promotional group was named, this time for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. Three out of the 'Six Olympic Stars' were retained, and Kevin Cheng Ka Wing was added to the bunch.

Solely based on TVB management and promotional strategy, if you asked me to name you a list of the new generation 'siu sungs', it would be these seven.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
The recent World Cup quartet are undoubtedly the most favoured young actors in TVB at the moment. Kevin Cheng winning latest TVB Best Actor award, although I strongly disagreed with the award, and his good looks, coupled with his good relations with TVB executives, definitely puts him in the top four.

As for the other three, it goes without saying. These three would be on the tips of everyone's tongues, if I had asked you to name me three young, successful TVB actors. The previous winners of the TVB Most Improved Actor award, Raymond, Ron and Bosco have definitely carved quite a name for themselves, being cast in one big production after another. Bosco tops the list with Dicey Business, HOG and Jewel's Splendour, while Raymond and Ron are both in the Drive of Life, and HOG and Brink of Law respectively.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Until this year's TVB Anniversary Awards, Kenneth Ma is still the current holder of the Most Improved Actor award. However, IMO, he does not possess the success and the pizzazz of the other three previous winners just yet, and has not been casted in any such grand productions in a major role.

Sammul Chan
is the only one left out of the S4 who hasn't won that award yet, and while I felt that he deserved it at that point in time before some of them, rumour has it that he hasn't won because he was not a contracted TVB artist. However, he's back to filming with TVB, and if I remember correctly, might even have signed on with TVB (could someone please tell me if I've gotten this right?), so that's good for him.

Chris Lai
has not been mentioned nearly as much as the others have, but after watching Heart of Greed, and the current screening of The Green Grass of Home, I think it's safe to say that he's gaining popularity and should be on this list.

However, that's not the point of this write-up. What I found most interesting, while making this list, was that there was one thing they all had in common. Obviously, they're all male, young, promoted by TVB, popular, lusted after by millions of female fans, etc. You get my drift. But there's one other thing they all have in common with one another.

That's right. All seven of these actors have been paired up with the beautiful Leila Tong Ling in numerous series over the years. I don't know about you, but I found that rather surprising. It might have been expected, being that TVB doesn't have a very large base of capable young actors and actresses, but however, I would have guessed that it would've been Leila. Don't get me wrong, I love her, but I didn't know, I would have guessed the female who had co-starred with all seven would have been someone like Myolie.

Here, let's take a walk down memory lane with Leila and the seven guys.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Kevin & Leila in Burning Flame II (2002)

This was the first series in which I ever saw Kevin and Leila acting. They're both extremely easy on the eyes, but their characters seemed too different, and his character Mark was actually using her to get promoted, if I remember correctly. Nevertheless, they did have a few cute scenes together, albeit nothing that memorable. Leila looks so young with her long, straight hair.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Raymond & Leila in The Last Breakthrough (2004)

Definitely one of my favourite Leila pairings. Ken and Ching Ching were such a lovely couple to watch, from all their bickering, and his blatant flirting with her all the time, and later on, when she realised she loved him, and how she stuck by him and waited for him during his sickness.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Chris & Leila in Ten Brothers (2005)

I've never watched Ten Brothers, just a short promotional trailer and a few clips here and there. I'm not exactly sure if they ended up together, just that they were both in a love triangle with another one of Chris' brothers in the series. They do look pretty cute together, though.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Bosco & Leila in Aqua Heroes (2003), The Last Breakthrough (2004) and Life Made Simple (2005)

Three times they've worked together, and all three times it was great to watch. Their puppy-love relationship was adorable in Aqua Heroes. In The Last Breakthrough, although I loved Ken and Ching Ching, I have to admit, the Bosco/Leila scenes where he was secretly crushing on her were also great to watch. In Life Made Simple, they both portray the most mature relationship in their partnership on-screen; Leila was a fantastic devious Angel in angel's clothes (horrible pun intended) who in the end, realised that she had indeed really fallen for Michael. It's no surprise that this pairing has tons of fans.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Ron & Leila in Twin of Brothers (2003) and War and Destiny (2006)

I was rooting for Ron & Leila in Twin of Brothers, because there was just that something that I liked about their relationship. I can't place my finger on it exactly, but I remember liking it. They also look compatible together. I haven't watched War and Destiny in full, just little bits here and there again, but I really want to because I've read some good reviews, it looks rather compelling and Leila apparently plays her most mature role yet, so I really want to catch it. Plus, apparently Ron and Leila's characters have a very bittersweet relationship in the series, and I'm a sucker for those.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Sammul & Leila in Bar Benders (2006)

I've always wondered if they would ever be paired up in a series together. Both of them are cute and look so youthful, that they would look adorable together. This is definitely one series I want to watch, although Adam Cheng usually annoys me; I'm willing to watch for the Sammul/Leila storyline. Both of them also apparently acted very well in here.

Extra info: I was searching around for pictures for this post last night, and I stumbled across this radio clip where Leila has to call a co-star up and play a prank on him/her. She chooses to call Sammul, and his reaction to it is pretty funny. Click here to hear it!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Kenneth & Leila in The Family Link (2007)

Haven't watched this either, although it's one I'm hyped up about catching. However, I don't think they look as good together physically, compared to the way Leila matches the rest. They have a pretty large fanbase already, so I'm hoping that they have an abundance of chemistry.

What's up next? Leila has finished filming in the mainland for The Last Princess, in which she'll have somewhat of a relationship with Sammul, for the second time. She's also now in the midst of filming The Hidden Master, where she'll apparently be paired with Kenneth Ma. Fans of both pairings can rejoice.

Which one is your favourite Leila pairing out of these seven young actors? Who would you like to see her co-star with again?

Video Spotlight; #1

A Tribute to Bernice Liu - Suddenly I See

This here is my latest video, made to the sounds of KT Tunstall's Suddenly I See. Since entering the TVB family after winning the 2001 Miss Chinese International Pageant, the gorgeous Bernice has carved quite a name for herself as an actress, singer and dancer in the Hong Kong entertainment world. Her filmography includes Virtues of Harmony I & II, Survivor's Law, Love Bond, Healing Hands III, Devil's Disciples, The Brink of Law & The Slicing of the Demon, all of which are highlighted in this video, alongside different clips of her from different events.

It's no secret that Bernice is one of my favourite female TVB personalities. Her sunny confidence and charismatic disposition is what makes her so well-received, and I hope to show that to its fullest in this video.

Do take a look and let me know what you think. :)

There and Back Again; Prologue

I've always enjoyed writing fanfiction almost as much as I enjoy reading it. I began writing fanfics about five years ago; first I wrote Westlife fanfics (yes, I was a crazed Westlife teenybopper fan, lol), and then I started writing One Tree Hill fics after I started watching the show. Ideas for new fics come to me all the time - I have unwritten fic ideas for Grey's Anatomy and Heroes and whatever else I'm into at the moment. However, I haven't written anything for a long, long time. All my work-in-progress fics are halted at the moment and I just haven't had the inspiration, so I decided to start work on this TVB fic that I've had for a long, long time. Hopefully this will give me the motivation to start writing fanfiction again!

This here is just a little teaser, a prologue, a glimpse as to what to expect in terms of story in the fic. It's called There and Back Again, after a song by Chris Daughtry. One thing to note, is that I will not be writing this fic with the actors and actresses' real names, because I find that a little odd; but instead, I'll be giving them specific character names. It's going to be a little like a series, with different roles for the actors I've casted in my fic. See if you know who I'm going to include in my fic! Do leave me a comment, be it if you're taking a guess at the actors in my fic, or just to tell me that this is not a good idea. Every comment is appreciated. :)

There and Back Again; Prologue

He’s a highly successful neurosurgeon, next in line to the chief of neurosurgery at the prestigious Yan Sang Hospital. He’s cool, cocky and some might say he’s downright arrogant. He’s good at what he does, he knows it, and he knows that everyone knows it too. Work, success, career and money are second to none, and while he loves women, he has never met one that has held his attention for long enough. Is that going to change anytime soon?

She’s an idealistic serial-dater, dating and dumping guys more often than she vacuums her floor. She’s a freelance model and once in a while, is an extra in movies, bagging roles with no lines. She hides behind her beautifully made-up façade, but what is she hiding from? She’s bubbly and outgoing on the surface, but is there something deeper that causes her to shy away from commitment and her true feelings? Who will save her from herself?

Take, take your time
Smell the roses, but steal the vines
Don't wait for the hands of time
To second guess and change your mind
And shine
Here's your moment to shine
Shine

He’s a young doctor at Yan Sang, nearing the peak of his career. Willing to help, committed to his causes and excellent at what he does, he is the epitome of the perfect doctor. But sometimes, is there ever such a thing as being too committed? He has never paid much attention to the opposite sex before, giving first place to work and helping others, but could love hit him where he least expects it?

She’s carefree, optimistic and hopeful, even when she’s been broken more than enough times to not be anymore. She’s been a patient at Yan Sang hospital for the past five years, on and off. Just when she thinks she’s made it, she has another relapse, and returns to Yan Sang and its people that she’s grown to know and love. While she doesn’t know how much longer she has to live, she’s learnt to take each day at a time, and live life for herself. What happens when she finds more than what she was looking for in the hospital and live life not only for herself, but for someone else as well?

Replace, replace that line
That spoke to you
And showed no signs to be alive
So are you livin' or dead?
You have made a choice to hear your voice
Or hold on to what they said
Now, shine
Here's your moment to shine
Shine

He’s the youngest of two sons in a rich family, having inherited a vast fortune when his parents passed away. His relationship with his brother is rocky, but in actual fact, they’re more alike than they could ever have imagined. He’s by no means unintelligent, but instead chooses to sleep the day away and party the night away. Girls throw themselves at his feet on a daily basis; he’s certainly no stranger to them. Like his brother, he has never met one that has made his heart beat fast. Will she appear in his life now? And will she be what he has expected?

She’s simple, intelligent and has a heart of gold. She dreams, like any other girl her age, but dares not to dream for too much. A nurse at the Yan Sang hospital, she goes about her daily routine with ease and content; stability is all she wants. Or is it all she thinks that she wants? Her rules for life apply to love as well. Always never daring to hope for a Prince Charming to sweep her off her feet, but instead wanting a simple Average Joe to share her life, what happens when the one really arrives? As different from her, and as flawed as he may be, he makes her feel like never before. Will she dare to love?

Lay down, my friend
Close your eyes, breathe in
And I'll take you there and back again
No more questions why
I'm not so surprised
Why you have
Been there and back again

So many questions, so little time. Join these six people as they struggle to find the answers to these questions, while balancing career, friendship, family and life. Can they do it?

The Foreword; Part II.

Okay, finally after much delay and procrastination from your lazy blog owner, Part II of the foreword is up! If you've missed part I, you can read it here. This time, this post will include my favourite TVB female artists, and my thoughts on them. Mainly just a little write-up so that you guys know what to expect from me and my future posts. Obviously because I'm a fan, I will tend to write more about them, and you need to know that. Comments are once again, greatly welcome!

Without further ado, I present to you:

My Leading Ladies

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Jessica Hester Hsuan

Why she plain rocks: Jessica always has, and always will be one of my favourite actresses. She is one of those actresses who immerses herself greatly into her role. She isn't just merely theoretically acting by the book, she wholly immerses herself into those roles. She IS the role. What I also love is that she has both the beauty, the brains and the talent. She has a degree in Material Science and Engineering, and if you read her interviews, her answers are eloquent, and she comes off across as very thoughtful, mature and wise. Also, she's shown that she has the capacity to not only play strong career women (I'm sure everybody remembers Rachel in Golden Faith), but has also carved quite a name for herself in the comedic genre.

Aesthetic value: I personally think she's beautiful. While I've never had the luck to meet her in person, my sister-in-law has, and says that she's even more beautiful in person. She's classy, has a great eye for fashion, and carries herself with ease; and yet still manages to retain that certain youthfulness to her. I can only hope I look as good as she does when I'm at that age.

Favourite series: Detective Investigation Files IV, Old Time Buddy, Golden Faith, Secret of the Heart, A Matter of Customs, Square Pegs, Dicey Business.

Remarkable Partnerships: For sure, with Louis Koo in DIF IV. Who didn't love the angst and chemistry between the cool and silent Chui Fei and the lovely Mo Chiu Kwan, often called Ms. Mo? Coming in a close second, is the love story between the selfless Ivan and headstrong Rachel in Golden Faith, with Gallen Lo as Jessica's love interest. I also have an extremely soft spot for Jessica and Wong Hei in A Matter of Customs, and with Michael Miu in Dicey Business, because I'm a sucker for angst, and boy, did those two couples have it. And of course, I suppose the chemistry with Roger Kwok in Square Pegs also warrants an honorable mention.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Ada Choi Siu Fun

Why she gets a golden star: Basically, everything I've just said for Jessica applies to Ada as well. I've enjoyed watching the both of them so much when I was younger, and that has carried on throughout the years. Ada is an actress that emotes amazingly well with her eyes. If you watch her emotional scenes closely, you'll find that she doesn't need to speak, her eyes already speak volumes about how she's feeling. A lot of actress have failed to master this, and their eyes look lifeless when they're acting. Ada, obviously, is not one of them. In Where the Legend Begins, her gentle and self-contained Yan Fook with just the slightest tinge of sorrow in her eyes won me over, and her charismatic Wai Ying Chi in Armed Reaction III and IV sealed the deal. Out of acting, I adore her for being so steadfast in her Christian faith. If I were to make a comparison, as an actress and in terms of elegance and personality, she reminds me very much of Nicole Kidman.

Aesthetic value: Ada is elegant and absolutely beautiful. She still looks so stunning, unlike some Hollywood personas of the same age who's already had countless Botox jobs. Her height adds to her graceful stature, and she exudes class and beauty without having to overly expose herself. She looks exquisite in ancient films, and I really, really hope TVB films that ancient drama in that was in the 2007 sales presentation. Ada would play a woman scorned very very well, as seen in the presentation clip.

Favourite series: Secret of the Heart, On the Track or Off, Where the Legend Begins, Healing Hands I & II, Armed Reaction III & IV, At the Threshold of an Era.

Remarkable Partnerships: For me, hands down, with Steven Ma in Where the Legend Begins and in On the Track or Off. And of course, how could I forget with Lawrence Ng in Healing Hands I and II. Ada's Jackie was by far my favourite character on that show, and while I've never been a fan of Lawrence, I loved their relationship. Also, an awesomely cute relationship with Bobby's Chan Siu Sang in AR III & IV.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Tavia Yeung Yi

Why she is my pick: I've been a fan of Tavia since the beginning. I thought she showed so much promise and potential for a young actress and have been eagerly following her progress since then. A lot of people label her the next Maggie Cheung, and I agree whole-heartedly. Not only in the looks department, but acting-wise as well. Maggie is an excellent actress, and Tavia is slowly reaching that level. She impresses me more and more in every series I see her in. I love that she's a graduate of the TVB acting class, and while beauty pageants have discovered a number of talents, I'm pretty glad she's not just another pretty pageant face. She worked her way up from bit roles, into the successful actress she is today. Like Ada, I find that she emotes very well with her eyes, and she's definitely learnt to cry very beautifully and poignantly compared to the days of her Kiko in Golden Faith, wailing as she ran down the street. (Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the confrontation of Oscar and Kiko in the scene before that, but the next scene of her running down the street made me cringe a little. It was also bad editing on the producer's part) I'm glad to see her finally getting all the recognition she deserves after her image change. It's a little disappointing so see that she only got recognised for her makeover rather than for her talent, but as long as she's happy with her new look and that people are finally appreciating her acting, then that's great. She's definitely got the producer/casting director of Dicey Business to thank. I think it was a bit of an inspired casting to cast her in the role of Tam Chu Mei, but now, I couldn't imagine anyone better; it was a very refreshing role for Tavia.

Aesthetic value: Like I said, I've always been a fan of Tavia since the beginning, and thought she was beautiful. Sadly, not many people agreed until her sexy makeover. She's got very unique facial features and I've always found her very pretty. Her facial features and her bone structure make her very photogenic and she wears a lot of clothes very well. Also, her personality seems so fun-loving and extroverted, and that adds so much to her appeal.

Favourite series: The Awakening Story, Vigilante Force, Golden Faith, Find the Light, Twin of Brothers, Shades of Truth, Food for Life, Dicey Business, and I'm guessing I'll be adding Heart of Greed to this list before long. I also really want to watch Land of Wealth and Face to Fate because she looks so beautiful in ancient series, and because she got great reviews for both.

Remarkable Partnerships: I've enjoyed watching a lot of Tavia's relationships on screen. For sure, with Raymond, Ron and Bosco out of the younger actors. To fuel my like for all three pairings, they all seem to get along extraordinarily well in real-life too. I think Tavia is what people would call 'one of the boys'. Despite her new womanly image, she jokes and kids around with them easily, like before, and I love that. Raymond and Tavia were angstily great in Golden Faith and in TOB together, while Ron and Tavia had a more fun, less-worrisome story in The Academy. Bosco and Tavia were great in Dicey Business and I'm enjoying them a lot in Heart of Greed as well. They seem to have a very severe understanding of one another acting-wise, and that translates onto screen very well, in portraying two relationship extremes in either series. Surprisingly enough, I also thoroughly loved her stories with Bowie Lam and Wong Hei respectively in Vigilante Force and Shades of Truth. Both are such unconventional pairings, but it paid off and the result was great, for me. Looking forward to watching Tavia and Ah Hei again in Trouble Daddy.

Myolie Wu Hung Yee

Why she gets two thumbs up: There's no denying that Myolie is a wonderful actress in her own right. To me, there is a certain charm and charisma about her when she appears on screen. She's extremely talented, whilst being very likable. Her signature role as Yan Yan in Golden Faith couldn't have been done by a lesser young actress, and showed great promise to the audience on what was to come from this actress. Yan Yan was so innocent, naive and had so much childlike simplicity that was portrayed in abundance by Myolie. One of the most deserving 'Most Improved Actress' awards in that point of time. Since then, she's went on to play a spectrum of roles, delivering solid performances time and time again. She's got very spot-on comedic timing, as proven in War of In-Laws. One role I'd really love for her to take on (and she says this so herself too) is one of a devious, cunning nature. That would be really interesting and good for her to sink her teeth into, artistically speaking.

Aesthetic value: At first glance, Myolie might not be the prettiest actress around to a lot of people, but I think she has a very classy aura about her. She's got that wholesome girl-next-door look which is very appealing to a lot of people. Myolie's also got that sweet smile which looks great on film.

Favourite series: Golden Faith, The Awakening Story, Family Man, Survivor's Law, Triumph in the Skies, Net Deception, Lost in the Chamber of Love, War of In-Laws

Remarkable Partnerships: I really liked Raymond and Myolie in Survivor's Law. Tons of cute, sweet moments, especially when he was learning how to knit to fix her bag (Come on, show me a guy who does that, and I'll offer him my hand in marriage, lol). Surprisingly, her Zoe with Francis Ng's awful-English-warbling Sam in Triumph of the Skies also left a very strong impression in my mind. You almost expected them to crash and burn as a pairing, but the innocence and readiness-to-love of Zoe and the worldy and mature Sam worked, and the age-gap didn't matter at all, once the relationship got underway. And of course, I couldn't get away with not mentioning Bosco and Myolie, could I? Despite the recent outburst of Bosco-haters and hence, hating Bosco in any possible pairing, I have an extremely soft spot for this pairing. They made me laugh and cry and go 'aww' in War of In-Laws, and I'm glad that they're doing a sequel. (Although all the costumes and hair-dos in the pictures so far really make me cringe. This is supposed to be TVB's equivalent of Devil Wears Prada? Huh.)

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Bernice Liu Bik Yee

Why I simply love her so: I have to admit, while I'm a huge, huge fan of Bernice's, her acting isn't up to the par of say, Tavia, or Myolie. She does excellent for tomboyish roles like that of her Gei Mei Lai in Love Bond, or fun, flirty characters like her Man Tai Po in Into Thin Air. I absolutely loved her in those. However, she does need to improve on broadening her forte in order to be able to pull away from being stereotyped. I felt she improved a lot in her Brink of Law's Wing, from Betsy in Healing Hands III, and hope that continues on. So, although she may not be the best actress, she's most definitely my favourite TVB personality. She's bubbly, and outgoing, and seems to get along well with all her co-stars, alongside being perfectly comfortable in her own skin and in her own right. She also wins points with me for being able to speak perfect English, for her singing and her dancing, and for improving on her Cantonese so much, from not even being able to read her scripts at all when she started out. I would love to watch Virtues of Harmony solely to watch her parts.

Aesthetic value: I think Bernice is simply gorgeous. She has a beautiful smile, and everytime she smiles, her whole face lights up. I love that she's not stick-thin and has curves. And again, her personality makes her all the more attractive to me. Cute, sexy, mature, natural; she pulls off every look with ease and confidence. She's an advertiser's joy, as proven again and again, and I can really see why they all love her so. Also, she manages to exude sex appeal without being trashy or slutty, but instead managing to maintain a healthy, wholesome image. Definitely a great role model.

Favourite series: Love Bond, Into Thin Air, Brink of Law

Remarkable Partnerships: Of course, it's no secret that I am a Bernice fan, and I'm a crazed Bernice/Moses fan. They had so much chemistry in Love Bond, and in Healing Hands III, and what makes it even more remarkable is that they had such different storylines and character history, and yet their chemistry was still so apparent in both series. I also love the fact that that chemistry's not only limited to the screen, but also off-screen at interviews, fashion shows and at award shows as they seem to get along extremely well. Bernice also had uber cute scenes in Into Thin Air with Kenneth Ma and she looks very compatible with Steven in Brink of Law.

Leila Tong Ling

Why she gets a five out of five: Leila has been one of my favourite actresses since Day 1. I remember seeing her in Burning Flame II and hoping that she would get bigger roles some day. She's a natural in front of the camera, and what I like about her is that she's been given some pretty diverse roles to play, and nails them all more often than never. She was great to watch as the stubborn, sarcastic, yet caring Ching Ching in The Last Breakthrough, and then next, in a complete 180 in Life Made Simple's Angel who was determined and conniving. Like Bosco Wong said in a K-100 interview, he's never seen her in such an devious role, and it's pretty unbelievable that someone who likes like an angel, like a baby, could be so cunning. I completely agree. I've also watched bits and pieces of War and Destiny, and I loved her transformation into such a mature character. It's a shame she hasn't gotten more promotion from TVB because she can act circles round some of the younger actresses TVB seems intent on shoving down our throats these days.

Aesthetic value: Leila's got adorable features, right from the huge eyes to the chubby cheeks, and the sweet smile. She looks very youthful, which is always a plus for any actress. She also looks great in both ancient and modern get-ups; that's obviously another advantage for her.

Favourite series: The Last Breakthrough, Twin of Brothers, Life Made Simple, Aqua Heroes, Square Pegs

Remarkable Partnerships: For sure, with Raymond in The Last Breakthrough. Their coupling as Ken and Ching Ching made the show for me. Bosco and Leila in LMS were great to watch, to me. She also looked absolutely beautiful with Ron in TOB. Dying to watch Bar Benders and The Family Link to see how she fared with Sammul and Kenneth, respectively.

Natalie Tong Si Wing

Why she gets my vote: Natalie Tong is the one actress, out of the many new fledgling actresses of the coming TVB generation, whom I'd like to see get bigger and better roles. Unfortunately, for a long period of time, she was either typecast into bubbly, hyper, supporting characters, or younger-sister roles. Case in point, Love Bond, Food for Life, Under the Canopy of Love. I'm not saying that that's a bad thing, because I did really enjoy watching her, but any type of typecasting is not a good thing for an actress. However, her role as the timid and nervy Ying Ying in At Home With Love excited me because it showed that she can do more than just bubbly and young. As a fan, I really can't wait to watch her in her first second-female-lead role in The Seventh Day. The promo, although heavily featured on Kevin and Niki, was pretty promising for Natalie, and I'm just eagerly anticipating the entire series as a whole for a wide myriad of reasons.

Aesthetic value: She's cute, and bubbly, and I find that extremely infectious with her. Might she be trying to change her image anytime soon? I was surprised to see her in the TVB Calendar alongside two of TVB's sexiest actresses, Bernice Liu and Gigi Lai, and also in the photoshoot where this photo is from.

Favourite series: Hearts of Fencing, Love Bond, Under the Canopy of Love, At Home With Love, Just Love

Remarkable Partnerships: Out of all the series I've seen her in, she's paired up twice with Charles Szeto in UTCOL and At Home With Love, and personally, I think Charles Szeto is a horrible actor at the moment, so neither one of those partnerships does it for me. A notable mention were her cute scenes with Stephen Wong in Love Bond. Stephen's acting was not fantastic there either (although definitely more bearable than Charles'), but the relationship worked, for me. Her little storyline with Dave Wong in Just Love were interesting to watch as well, because of the age-gap.

Vivien Yeo Sau Wai

Why I'm rooting for her: Pure and simple, it's because we hail from the same place. I'd love for a Malaysian to be successful in the TVB arena, because it's what I grew up watching. We haven't had a Malaysian actress in TVB since the stunning Angie Cheong Wai Yee; who was Ah Guai in A Kindred Spirit, so I really hope she makes it. TVB seems to be giving her quite a number of roles, most recently in the much-hyped sequel to War of In-Laws. In addition, she also wrangled a spot on the Lady in Red CD, which was promising for her. Vivien also plays the piano, and she played a Richard Clayderman piece for the talent portion in the Miss Malaysia Chinese International Pageant; that won brownie points from me.

Aesthetic value: Not to be biased, but I do think she's pretty. She's got a very fresh look, and is pretty likable all-round, from various forums.

Favourite Series: I've seen her in Sunshine Heartbeat and Into Thin Air, and I think she's most definitely improved since her Sunshine Heartbeat days, although neither were breakthrough performances.

Other favourite actresses of mine are the amazing Sheren Tang, Joyce Tang, the beautiful, formidable Michelle Yim, Nancy Wu, Akina Hong, Fiona Yuen, the classic Mary Hon, Sherming Yiu, and the hilarious Chu Mi Mi. Out of the missing-in-action ones, I really love watcing Maggie Cheung, Margaret Chung, Marianne Chan, and Annie Man. I was really getting sick of Linda Chung after that huge onslaught of her in the press recently, and to be honest, I didn't think she was that great an actress in Always Ready back then, but now she's growing on me, albeit slowly.
